Nicely redesigned place, the renovation from Thai 99 to Silk Thai made the whole setting a lot classier. Seating is comfortable, and the people are always pleasant. Prices are low and the food was excellent. We got dumplings, Thai iced coffee & tea, chicken wings, and various noodle and rice-based entrees with chicken, duck, and pork on various occasions. Everything was really good, except that the Thai iced coffee was too sweet for my taste.
This Thai restaurant is okay to eat. It's just an average cook food Thai restaurant. Most of time when I and my family stopped here for something to eat the food they cooked was so sweet (too much sugar) and actually I dislike. I rather eat other place else.
One of the best Thai Restaurants in Charlottesville area. My all time favorite Thai restaurant in this area. My wife and I like spicy food and this is the best Thai food that we found. Drunken Noodles are the best here.
Service was very good. The menu had lots of tasty choices. If we lived closer, this would definitely be a fave stop!
The food was delicious and the service was quick. We really enjoyed the many different dishes to choose from. We each tried something different and sampled everything. It has a new favorite.
best thai food in charlottesville. love the tom kha soup and mango sticky rice. entire staff is SO friendly. 5 stars!!
I ordered green curry chicken and spring rolls for takeout. I was pretty disappointed with the lack of eggplant ... like no eggplant or any other vegetable except a couple of slices peppers. The coconut curry sauce was ok but there wasn't much to the dish. The spring rolls were ok. For the $18 I dropped on these two items, I have had much more and better elsewhere.
Awesome Thai restaurant to visit. A lot of options in both veg and non-veg and drinks. You can customize the spice level. And service was really nice.
I live in walking distance of Silk Thai. I just moved to Charlottesville and was super happy about the proximity. The staff here is beyond unprofessional and rude. There seems to be a lack of staff so everyone there is running around not acknowledging the guests as they walk in. I’ve tried eating there three times and each time I have to flag down a waiter to be seated or for them to take my order. I wouldn’t waste my time with this place. All I’ve ever gotten is a headache and long wait from here. I hope the food is good. I’ve yet to actually try it.!
One of the best Thai places in Cville. Recommend the pad thai.
My long time friend and I just enjoyed a delicious lunch at Thai Silk. I had the Green Curry Shrimp, and she had the Penang Curry Chicken. Both had delicious flavors. We each ordered a different specialty Thai iced coffee and Thai iced tea, each made with sweetened condensed milk. Their lovely presentation made the look like Ice Cream Sodas, and they were just as good. They keep busy at lunch, but it’s still nice for quiet conversation. Service was great and prices were reasonable, too...we came from out of town, and the gps in our car brought here with no problem. I would definitely come back😊.
Silk Thai has the best Panang Curry I have ever had! It it my go-to every time we come now. The staff is always extremely friendly and responsive, they have a nice wine selection and a great patio. I highly recommend this restaurant whether for a casual lunch or a nice a nice evening out.
Friendly staff. Quick and accurate to-go order. Generous portions- which were still steaming hot after a 10 minute drive. Pad See Ew and Pad Khing Ginger were delicious. I will order mine a little spicier next time. Thanks again!
On one dish, the ginger sauce was especially well-balanced and flavorful. Everything we had was excellent, and the waiter was very knowledgeable and accommodating regarding dietary restrictions.
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Charlottesville area! The pad see ew and crispy duck are delicious, and the portion sizes are decent. I'd recommend going around lunch time on the weekdays when it's less crowded and you can order from the lunch menu (you get a soup/spring roll plus entree). Service could be better, however. There have been times when the server nearly dropped our food or mixed up my order and gave me a different dish instead.
Tom makes a great Mai TaiVery pleased with the service as well as the food .. .. . Stopped in before Virginia slaughtered Duke Oct19'19 ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Started w/spring roll and summer roll both. Had the drunken duck and the beef entree' in oyster sauceWill definitely be back ! ! !
Great food and price
We love their food, but it takes forever to get them on the phone to order. I have had to call them for over 20 minutes to try and get a hold of them. Other than that its a great place. Great food, Great portions, but need work on picking up the phone so you can order the great food!
Was surprised to see that Thai 99 was no longer here. Wasn’t too sure what to expect from here. Prices seemed reasonable and portions looked filling. When the food came out it was confirmed, the flavor may have been better than the old Thai 99 and was definitely very filling and satisfying.
I had the Kao Soi today and I have to say this is the best I've had since I moved back to the US from Bangkok. This tasted EXACTLY like the kao soi I'd get every week while living in Thailand. They even do the full chicken leg just like the shop owners do in Thailand. Most places just cut up the chicken, but this touch made it feel even more authentic. Plus, the price wasn't bad for this dish and it was so much that I was able to split it into 2 meals! Highly recommend this dish at Silk Thai. Can't wait to go back.
Service is slow. But the food was amazing!
Truly amazed by this place! First impression was the ambient and overall nice interior. Second impression was how quickly our food came after we ordered. I think was within 5 min. Another impression but i find it little funny is the location of the toilet bowl in men’s bathroom. Well for people like me over 6 feet tall trying to sit there can be quiet challenging. Overall love the place and will try to visit it again next time i am in Charlottesville!
The wide rice noodles are amazing and the fried rice is also very good. The staff was kind and attent, all for a very modest price.
Just had an excellent experience at Silk Thai that I wanted to share. It's located where the old Thai 99 used to be, but it's definitely a step above. Even though it was an extremely busy night, the staff were friendly and fast with the food. We sat at the bar, and the woman serving drinks was very entertaining and sweet to us. They top their Thai ice tea with whip cream, which is a nice twist that I've never seen before. My friend and I had the Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai, and both very flavorful and the meat wasn't dry. For you spicy lovers, they serve 5 levels of spicyness, and when they said 4 was very hot, they are being honest! In conclusion: more lively than the old restaurant here, and the staff were funny and inviting, give it a shot!
Great food, but they don’t answer the phone if you want to order for takeout. I’ve had to go there and wait a couple of times, even when they’re not busy.
Ordered 2 Thai teas and their summer spring rolls. The rolls were listed as containing shrimp, lettuce, noodles, carrot and cucumber with peanut sauce. The Thai tea was fine. The rolls however were terrible. I am pregnant and cannot eat beansprouts, which they apparently decided to sub the noodles for. There was one tiny tiny shrimp in each roll and a whole bundle of lettuce in each. Absolutely ridiculous.
Their panang curry is sweet with a little kick! Thai iced tea is very good. Indoor and outdoor seating with a nice, comfy waiting area in the front
Great food. We were in town to visit The Monroe Institute.
The food was great, but the service was extremely slow. It took about an hour to get our food after the appetizer. The restaurant could be managed better.
Really great personal service for this small Asian diner. Cool decorations and the food was varied and well prepared.
Featured: Red curry with chicken (front), calamari (middle), pad thai with chicken (back). -Curry and pad Thai were delicious. Place seemed cleaned, staff pleasant. -Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the server didn't understand English very well. He messed up our checks twice and couldn't answer questions about the menu. Food was worth it though.
Overall, I had a good take out experience. The calamari was a bit too chewy but that may have been because it took me a while to get home. The pork fried rice was amazing as well as the main dish which i cant remember the spelling. Definitely going back
I had eaten Thai food for long time. This place deserves a 5 stars. Thai food at here is great ( I mean in USA) when compare eith ither Thai restaurant.
This is the new Thai restaurant in Cville. Although we have a lot of Thai restaurants here, the menu here is very unique and delicious with generous portion. I would recommend silk crispy duck and pineapple fried rice. The food is so authentic and appropriately spicy (I'm Thai!).
Good presentation. Quality dishes,parking fair
Really good pad Thai, the seasoning is mixed all the way through. Good flavor with mix of sweet and I ordered a medium spice and it was perfect. People were nice and the resturesta was clean.
I love this place! We ordered several apps thinking the portions would be small but in reality, we waaay over-ordered! Delicious. Authentic. Adorable atmosphere. Highly recommended.
The food was absolutely amazing! Authentic and very nice presentation. The food came out prompt and hot. The staff was super friendly. They treated each guest like family.
Delicious. We got the KAO SOI CHICKEN...absolutely incredible. However it was very spicy as was the basil fried rice. Remember to ask for not spicy as their default is way too spicy. Great service and very nice people!
Great Thai food with a very friendly staff. This is a major upgrade of the old Thai '99. Changed owners but the business stayed in the same family. They also now offer free delivery within 2 miles!
Best Thai place in Charlottesville. If you're a spice lover like myself this place does a true Thai hot. The summer rolls (fresh rolls) are seriously good and will keep my wife and I coming back. This place also has a cute/relaxed ambiance. Wait staff was nice and attentive.
Consistently good Thai good. Great for a quick, healthy lunch.
Great food, great ambiance and great service.
Very nice atmosphere and authentic Thai restaurant!!!
Ordered off lunch menu for take out and was told that only dine in customers get the advertised roll or soup even though that's not stated on their menu. Drunken noodles were really greasy. I'll stick to Thai Cuisine and Noodle House in the future.
Amazing tasting food for a reasonable price. They allow you to specify your spice level from 1 to 5. I like to eat spicy and I felt like 3 was perfect. Finally, the wait staff was really sweet and kind. Highly recommend!
Paid $20 for less than a serving of an appetizer and less than a single serving of a main dish. They completely ruined my online order, way overcharged, and the food looked as if it was somebody's destroyed leftovers. Will NOT be ordering takeout from Silk ever again.
Decent food, and friendly service!
I ordered the drunken noodles and they were outstanding - you can really taste the wok hei. Tom kha soup was also great. Best place for authentic Thai food.
